Quick Overview...

Since I haven't been getting on daily, it feels like forever since I've put up a post with any content until yesterday evening. That being the case, I'm going to put up our Week at a Glance so that I can kind of fast-forward to where I can keep up again!

Tuesday - the library story time, of course, but Steve got to go with us this time! We didn't walk, because it was rather sprinkly/drizzly that day, but that's okay. He got the general idea. In the afternoon, Steve picked Kellen up from school and took him to his piano lesson and stayed for the whole lesson. It's so seldom that he really gets to be a part of what goes on in our daily schedules and he took full advantage of the opportunity this week!

Wednesday - When they were at the optometrist on Monday, Steve had made an appoinment for me for first thing Wednesday morning since he'd be available to spend the time with Madison. This worked out great because I went to have my eyes checked (new contact prescription forthcoming to accomodate the onward progress of deterioration) and then went to a couple of thrift stores and Wal-Mart. Madison has out-grown all of her 2T stuff (her pants are about 2" too short) so I was thrilled to find a 4T shirt/pant outfit and a few pairs of shorts for her at the thrift store; $4.50 included a couple yards of fabric for a pretty summery dress. Now I just have to decide on a pattern, and none of the ones I have quite fit what I had in mind for this fabric... In the meantime, Steve and Madison took a play day in town at a local children's discovery house with tons of play equipment out back. Steve said the biggest problem was that Madison moves too fast. She came down a slide and then went up to go again, with Steve waiting at the bottom to get a picture, but she didn't come down. Steve started to panic and climbed to the top of the equipment looking for her. When he found her, she was at the far end of the play equipment just having fun; didn't even phase her that Dad was a little freaked out! I did send him with the camera so that he could take a few pics but, again, she moves a little fast!

Wednesday evening - We had scouts this evening so Steve stayed home with Madison while I went with Kellen. Why, you ask? Well, the week before we had been working on learning the Cub Scout Promise in Sign Language to finish earning the Communication Belt Loop and Pin, and I'm the one who knows how to sign it. It gets difficult to take Madison and be able to control the damage she's capable of doing, so it's easier to have one of us stay home with her whenever possible. Since I knew the Sign Language, and Steve didn't, the roles for the evening were already determined. I should note: I am by no means an ASL scholar. Call it a hobby. So I had a web address handy that could show me what I needed to know in order to show the scouts and leaders how to do it.

Thursday - Steve and I didn't do much the first part of the day, but we enjoyed german sausages for dinner that night (I enjoyed not having to cook) and then we went to our Pack meeting. Our den was in charge of the flag ceremony that night (they did a great job!) and I led our den in signing the Cub Scout Promise in front of everyone. Our cubmaster did an overview of the summer calendar with the parents while the den leaders kept the boys entertained with a (noisy) game; poor cubmaster was shouting to be heard over them :) After the Pack meeting we made a detour by DQ before going home. We had tried to order something for Madison (small strawberry sundae) but she didn't like our choice; Kellen's slushee looked MUCH more appealing to her! In the end, Kellen showed himself to be a great brother by agreeing to share part of his slushee in exchange for part of her sundae. Everyone got what they wanted!

Friday - I had an appointment back at the optometrist mid-morning to be fitted for my new contact prescription and we had a long chat with the billing department there. Steve had come home on Monday saying that they had the insurance information wrong and he went to the website and checked it. Yup. Our insurance plan covers darn near everything. So with Kellen's glasses costing $10 more than they covered (we pay 80% of that) and the co-pay on two pairs of glasses, we are at a total charge of $78 for both Kellen's and Steve's glasses. MUCH better than the original $265 from Monday! That means that we now have a credit there, which we'll use towards getting me a year's supply of contacts. The insurance will cover new frames for me every other year, contacts every year. I got frames just last year, so they'll cover up to $120 in contacts this year. Between that and the credit remaining at the optometrist's office, the year's supply of contacts will be a piece of cake!

Finally, Saturday - Well, it was back to work for Steve this morning. He has a training to lead at the office, but it's supposed to be over at noon, letting him be back home by 1-130pm, by the time clean-up is done. Not too bad, in the grand scheme of things here. I have spent my ENTIRE morning reading up on everyone's blogs, since I didn't do it at all in the last week, and now have plans to get dishes done, make lunch for the kids, get Maddi down for a nap, and perhaps get the lawn mowed while she's sleeping. Oh yeah, for those who remember our mower problems, it turns out it just needed a new air filter! Hooray for cheap fixes! I am now going to try to catch my day before it gets any further ahead of me. Hopefully it will be a while before I have to do a post like this one again!

That's great about all the eye-ware being so well-covered by insurance. It's so nice to learn that something you thought would be expensive ends up being so not-expensive!

I'm glad you were able to enjoy your week with Steve home, sounds like you all had a nice time. It's so great that he would take so much time to be with the kids (taking Madison to the park, Kellen to piano lessons). And I guess we'll have to forgive you for neglecting the blogging community this once :)

How nice that your mower was just an inexpensive part to fix it. Unfortunately, we ended up buying a new one this past week. On the positive side, we shouldn't have to pay for any repairs this summer! :)
