Just things...

Yesterday the kids and I went out to play in the back yard for a little bit since there was a stretch of sunshine for a while. Kellen and I kicked a ball back and forth across the yard while Madison dragged her sand toys around the yard and pulled new leaves off the trees. The bizarre thing was that only about ten minutes after we came back inside, it started trying to snow! It's not cold enough for it to have stuck at all, but there were little flurries of snowflakes falling.

This morning we hooked Steve's car up to mine to jump it, since I had a dead battery, and then we loaded up a lunch and the kids and took a trip to an aviation museum for the morning. It was so nice to be out somewhere for a while doing something together. Kellen and Steve really enjoyed looking at all of the planes, and they even had an area of the hangar with stuff that the kids could get some hands-on time with. They had a few small wooden planes designed for toddlers to be able to sit on and push around, which Madison thought was great. And this particular museum even has the Spruce Goose on display. You don't get to go inside most of the planes, but they had historical information on what different planes were used for at different times, some of the unique facts about them, and photos of them being used in their time. Afterwards, we went to a local winery (there are lots in the area) so that Steve and I could do a little tasting. Most of them were pretty dry which, for me, simply means that they're not very sweet. I could appreciate some of the flavors, but it's not what I would go for if I was looking for a wine. We did buy two bottles, though. One is a pinot gris (pronounced peenoe gree) which is a little less dry than some that we tried, and the other is a dessert wine that is really sweet, like an apple syrup almost. The guy that was pouring the wines said that, although they're designed to be drunk alone, he will sometimes put a little drizzle of dessert wine over the top of vanilla ice cream to dampen the sweet just a little. We are thinking we may have to try that.

Madison fell asleep on the way home, which wasn't such a good thing because it was 3pm. Late naps make for rather difficult evenings for her. To try to counter-act that we woke her as soon as we got home, making it only a 1/2 hr nap, but she was pretty much going the entire remainder of the day! I was so worn out by the time it was bed time, and was really glad to put her down. The good thing is that, since it was a short nap, she went to bed fairly easily. I only had to sit in there with her for 15 minutes this evening, instead of the typical half hour to an hour.

The church does a social time the last Sunday of every month, and I signed up to bring cookies for tomorrow. So we made Ginger Crinkles and Chocolate Chip cookies to take with us to church tomorrow. I thought someone was supposed to call me so that everyone doing it could kind of coordinate it, but no one called me. Now I'm wondering if maybe I actually signed up for the end of April instead of the end of March. Oh, dear. Well, I have two platters of cookies wrapped and ready to take tomorrow so we'll just have to see if I was right or if I am going to feel a little foolish :)

I did take the camera to the museum today, but then I forgot it out in the car so I will have to put pictures of our day up tomorrow afternoon instead. In the meantime, it's been a long day and I'm ready to hit the sack!

WOW! What a full day! It sounds like it was so nice to spend time together...and DARN those late afternoon naps--as necessary as they are some days, they really do throw everything off!!!

The good thing about all your premade cookies is that you can freeze them in baggies and maybe send them to school in Kellen's lunch (if he eats at school) or save them for next month... :) I have made those funny mistakes a time or two!

What a full day! I didn't know wineries were as far north as that...thought they were all in CA. Anyway, sounds like a neat experience. About those cookies. You could take Rachel's advice or package them really well and send them out here with baby clothes...they won't go to waste, I promise!

But wait! Every time I make cookies they go to "waist"! Everything sounds great...So glad the cookie thing turned out good. goes to show you to trust your first instincts. I very pleased that Kellen is reading his bible and is interested in what things mean. Hope he keeps that up.
