Steve and I decided to give Kellen his own bible for Easter this year. I know that most of you (my family) have the King James' Version, but the church that we've been attending uses the NIV (New International Version) which simplifies a lot of the language. I had no idea there were so many ways to present the Bible until we went looking at copies for Kellen. They have them with inspirational notes directed towards your gender (bibles for guys, the women's bible, etc.), some are color-coded by topic, the one-year bible sets out a plan to read parts of the old and new testament every day and complete both in one year, a thin bible (no footnotes or cross-referencing), and children's bibles. Wow. So we bought Kellen a boy's bible. It has various notes in the side margins pointing out cool things about Christ's time, sections where it will ask questions and encourage him to think further about the concept in a particular verse, and other things to make the information in the Bible more appealing to a young boy. We didn't want to see it get destroyed in a matter of months (because that's what a boy
will do) so I made this cool cover for it this morning! It took some thought to make it all come together properly so that the fleece padding was on the inside, the pockets (on the inner flap) are where they're supposed to be, and all right sides of the fabric faced outward, but I was quite pleased with the result. The only thing I would've liked better is if I had had a zipper and could've made it a closed bag. But I've never put a zipper on anything in my life so I'm not certain I could've made it look right even if I
had one on hand.
Then we bought a small pendant necklace for Madison and Steve bought an NIV bible for me (since I obviously don't own one), so the only thing left is to figure out what I'm going to give to Steve for Easter. Everyone will have something of a spiritual nature in their basket except for him (well, really Steve and I end up sharing a basket) and he's kind of okay with not getting anything, but I would feel bad if he was the only one of us not getting something special for Easter. I've asked him what he wants, but he's not particularly forthcoming on that... Anyway, I'm excited with what we have for the kids, and I can't wait to see what Kellen thinks of his bible :)

That is a really great idea. I love the cover. You did a wonderful job! I love how you are really trying to involve Kellen in the religious (and most important) aspect of Easter--what a great mom!
Good idea to have something spiritual in each of the baskets. I love the cover you did for Kellen's bible! What is Maddi's necklace? I was able to order the Old and New Testaments in "scripture scouts", but don't know when they'll be in.
I was telling my mom about the cover and kind of bible you got kellen and she reminded me of when my young womans teacher-rebecca made a cover for all of the books we used. She even made one for a special binder that we would use for notes in class and chapel.
I have actually asked for a sewing machine for easter and every gift giving holiday forward until i get one. I hand sew right now and cant wait!!!
I hope you all have the most special Easter ever.

Neat cover! And I'm sure Kellen will appreciate the spiritual side of Easter. I'm looking forward to Evie getting into the spirit of Easter. Can't wait to hear how your shopping for Steve goes!
