Scouts

We had pack meeting last night and Kellen was awarded a couple of things. Our pack does segments, which means that they have a round district patch that goes below the right pocket on the front of the shirt, and as they participate in things with the pack they receive small curved patches that get sewn on around the district patch in an ever-growing circle. Kellen got one of those for participating in the caroling at a local retirement home right before Christmas. Then he was also awarded a special council patch for having sold more than $250 of popcorn, which is what this picture is showing. I should have taken a close-up of the patch so that everyone could see...Sorry about that :)

We have also been working on Kellen's Bear requirements and he was awarded two beads last night for the 8 achievements that he's completed. He receives 1 bead for every 3 achievments, with a total of 12 achievments (4 beads). Yesterday after school we worked on a couple more things and have two more achievements done, so now there are only two left. We are expecting that he will be awarded Bear at our Blue and Gold Dinner next month :) For those of you wondering about the flags, our scoutmaster used four different racing flags to demonstrate each of the cub ranks, and white was for the Bears. Kellen is one of 5 Bears this year, and two others were awarded beads, but Kellen's was done later because the scoutmaster forgot to bring him up with the others. Oops!

After awards were done, the boys were divided into two groups, to go play games and to make a new neckerchief slide, and most of the parents gathered in a corner to get information on upcoming scout activities. Since the Pinewood Derby is next month, they made a slide with a car on it and got to have races pulling each other on these towels. Madison had a blast watching the boys and even took turns riding on a towel, once with another little girl almost her age and again by herself.

Congrats to Kellen. It's always great to graduate to the next level. It's great that he enjoys Scouts, too!
