We be Jammin'!!

My friend, Michelle, and I went picking blackberries yesterday morning. Don't they look beautiful?
And then we made jam with them. I have to admit, we had a little extra help. Just over a week ago I was telling Mom that I just couldn't find a Victorio strainer at a price I could afford to pay, and asked if she would keep an ear out for anyone getting rid of one. She was going to loan me hers, but then she decided to grant me an early Christmas present instead. She gave me the Berry Press attachment for my Bosch! Wow!! Really, it was so amazing to watch those berries go through there. I had done the same things with some apples I got for free earlier in the week, too. The Berry Press attaches to the meat grinder (so, you already have to have invested enough in your machine to own that part, too) and you just push the fruit down through the meat grinder portion, it gets pushed through a sieve, and the seeds come out the other end. The great thing is that it does a wonderful job without me having to crank a handle!

So this picture is my seedless fruit becoming jam.
And this is a picture of the first batch of seedless blackberry jam that I've ever made :) So cool! And then Michelle came back over again today and we finished turning the rest of the berries we'd picked into lovely jam. Between the two of us, we ended with 26 half-pints and two pints. And we thoroughly enjoyed our peanut butter and jam sandwiches for lunch today, relishing the fruits of our labor.

Your jam looks so yummy! I didn't know there was a berry attachment for the bosch. I had a meat grinder once upon a time - probably still do somewhere. How nice that you could make the jam with a friend, always more fun!

How wonderful! I am jealous of everyone's canning lately. I just don't know a single thing about it!

I have just a few jars of blackberry syrup left and I guard them with my life. Enjoy!
