The Zoo or Dairy Queen?

Last week the Oregon Zoo was having $2 Tuesday. We have a family membership and could go any time, but a friend of mine does not and wanted to take advantage of the deal with her daycare kids. We thought it would be a lot of fun to go with her. On $2 Tuesday, NEVER AGAIN!!

It took about an hour to drive up to the zoo. That's expected for the distance we live from it. We knew we would have an hour drive there. But, once at the parking lot, we were turned around and directed out to a shuttle parking lot. Okay.

But that was the wrong shuttle parking lot. They have one for the weekdays and a different one for the weekends. Okay.

So we drove to the other shuttle parking lot. By the time we go in line for the shuttle it had been an hour and 45 min since we had left the house. Then we waited in line for an hour. We ate our lunches standing in line. Even that was okay.

Once we got on the bus, it took about another half hour to get one exit back up the freeway to the zoo parking lot because of all the traffic that was being turned away from the zoo, and that parking lot is the only place to go on that exit so it was backing up the freeway. Alright, we can handle this.

From the bus we could see the line to get into the zoo and could tell that it was going to be another hour in THAT line before we would actually get in. It's not okay anymore.

We decided to stay on the bus and go straight back to the parking lot where we got in our cars and drove to the nearest Dairy Queen for ice cream. After the ice cream we got back in our cars and went back home again. Steve thought it was great to be able to tell his dad that we took a hundred-mile drive for ice cream :)

And then just Madison, of course. She had a vanilla cone dipped in cherry coating, Kellen had the DQ version of a slushee, and I had a mint Blizzard. Yum!
