Still Here...

I know. It's Thursday and this is the first time this week that I've blogged anything. I get a little caught up in what's going on and don't always get here, so here's the update.

We went to church on Sunday, followed by a trip to Costco, with ultra-cheap hot dogs and pizza for lunch. Kellen did play the piano at church on Sunday, and received lots of compliments for members of the congregation. I am quickly becoming known for my kids ("Was it your son that played the piano on Sunday?", "Does the cute little blondie belong to you?") instead of for myself, but I guess it's better than not being recognized at all :)

Monday morning I drove over to the church and helped the quilting group package up quilts to mail off to a distribution center. Funny note: whenever we go for the quilting group, I tell Madison that we are going to go see the ladies at the church. So when we left on Monday morning, she waved at them and said, "Good-bye, Ladies!", which they all thought was great fun. Monday evening I went to my Bible study group, and Kellen broke down and let Madison come find me towards the end because she was crying for me. She's going to have to learn that I won't always be just in the next room. Oh, well.

Tuesday, I had arranged in advance to have someone watch Madison for me so that I could go on Kellen's field trip. My hat goes off to the teachers of those elementary children; they're a handful. I was truly frightened by a girl (remember, Kellen's class is 8-9 yrs old) who constantly had herself draped over an older boy (he had been held back a year), carried a purse, and practically sashayed everywhere she went. Does it start that young now?

Wednesday, I got miscellaneous patches sewn on Kellen's red scouting vest so that he could be in full uniform to go to a local public tv station where the kids would learn about how television is done and get to make their own commercial. This, of course, helped them move in the direction of earning the pin for Communication. It was great! Okay, Madison wasn't that thrilled, but the boys had a great time. For friends and family, if you email me I will be more than happy to send you a link in about 2 weeks to the website that will have that commercial showing so you can see it. I'm not going to post the link on the blog for obvious security reasons :) During the day on Wednesday, Madison and I walked to the library for story time, even though it was a bit overcast. We should've driven the car. It started raining just before we left the library, and it stopped about 10 minutes after we finished the half hour (1 mile) walk home. I thought it might quit after a few minutes and we'd just get a little damp. Besides, I couldn't just hang out at the library indefinitely with nap time coming up so quickly! Needless to say, we were drenched and freezingby the time we got home. I got Maddi into dry clothes right away and made some hot mac and cheese for lunch. Note to self: next time it's overcast, carry an umbrella just in case!

Which brings us to today. Madison and I made a brief jaunt out to Wal-Mart with a list in hand of stuff I needed to get. I forgot the list in the car. But I did manage to remember everything that had been on my list, and only grabbed one thing extra! Yeah! The only thing I was supposed to get and didn't was new pants for Steve. Our Wal-Mart had every waist size imaginable, but they only have 30 and 32 for the length! Steve needs a 34. I guess we'll have to go elsewhere for pants... But I was able to pick up two new dress shirts for him, which he was really kind of needing. I picked up laundry detergent, Mother's Day cards (just around the corner now!), new toothbrushes for the kids, some of the mouthwash that shows if you've gotten all the junk off your teeth (that was my extra item), a new hand cream (called Aquaphor, made by Eucerin) for my cracking/bleeding hands, and a couple of jump ropes. Kellen was trying to show me some of the stuff that he sees kids doing with jump ropes (they did the same things when I was in school, of course) and so I was doing it with him. But his jump rope is a $1 variety; not so good for much of anything, really. And Madison has adopted it. So I picked up a slightly better jump rope for him and a good jump rope for me, since it's good exercise and, with vaulted ceilings, I can do it inside! I think that about catches me up :)

Sounds like you've had a pretty busy week. I know what you mean about being known for your kids at church. I used to get that oh you're Josilyn's Mom and now I get you're that big little boy in the nursery's mommy.

We had a rainy-day incident recently, too. But we were just walking around the block and barely got sprinkled on before we got home and it started raining in earnest.

Being in nursery all the time, I feel like no one knows me, and the only ones who do are the ones whose kids are in my nursery with me and Evie. So I'd be the one to notice all the kids and associate the way you've been associated with.

That little girl on the field trip sounds very scary!

Glad I got to talk with you this week!

Wow, busy! The rain here makes me miss Florida, where you would have still been soaking wet, but not freezing cold. Good job on only grabbing one extra thing, that's tough to do.
