Small Vent

Disclaimer: If you like cats, you may want to skip reading this post!

It should be stated that I have a very definite preference for dogs over cats, but things like this just cement it. I was looking out the front window (Madison was waving good-bye while Steve left for work) and I glanced down at the bed of tulips that I had transplanted the other day. One of them was upside down, the bulb literally sticking up in the air. Obviously the work of a cat, because the bed is raised two feet off the ground and is really narrow. Not really thinking it through, I went out and re-dug it's hole and stuck it back in, but I found nice cat droppings in the process (can you hear my sarcasm?) which was what really put me over the edge. I went back in the house and got a Costco-size container of particularly hot chili powder and sprinkled it all over the flower bed. I hope they burn their mouths when they lick their paws, if the smell doesn't make them stay away entirely. Outdoor cats just wander "their territory" doing whatever they feel like, and I don't think I should have to deal with the poor side effects of an animal that doesn't belong to me.

My dad feels the exact same way he does NOT like cats at all. I'm not really sure why but he doesn't like them.

AMEN! I don't think there are many cats around here. We have several neighbors who own dogss, though and Evie loves to see them out on their walks. Aaron hates cats, too, so it's very unlikely we'll ever own one. (Except that Jana says: "until Evie's looking at you all puppy-eyed and says if she can't have a kitten for her birthday, she doesn't want anything at all.") We'll see...

I don't see the value in having cats either. Jon's parents have 2 and they always leave their dead birds and rats on the front porch and their poop in every flower bed in the neighborhood. Sorry you have to deal with it.

My dad is allergic to cats by the way. That is why he is not fond of them. Well, at least it adds to his unfondness. I have a neighbor right now who we are really good friends with. She is obsesed with cats but we are not allowed to have any animals in our apartment complex. She found a stray and decided to keep it so she is paying for it to be kept at a house until they can move to an apartment that allows cats (next month). I just don't understand that at all. Especially when rent for one of those apartments is way more than what we have right now.

I agree with the outside cats thing. There are a couple of males loose and wandering our neighborhood. When Jade was in heat they were always at our house. I left a stroller outside overnight, and it took forever to get the smell of their "spray" out of the fabric. Euw... Inside cats however, are quite nice. They potty train themselves!
