Busy-ness

I've decided I don't have enough to do (Ha-Ha) so I've been taking on some new things in this last week. Last Sunday, one of the ladies came up and asked if I wanted to be a shepherd (Sunday school teacher) and I agreed to help out with the 5th graders. Steve teased me about being a sucker, but then I reminded him that he'll probably have to help out by substituting my class while the pastor is doing the For Women Only class in a few weeks :) They already did the For Men Only class, which is a religious approach to better understanding your wife, I guess. The guys all got a book for it and everything, but the women aren't allowed to read the book or ask what they learned in the class. And in a few weeks they'll do one that's just for the women, and I want to go.

Then, on Monday night, I went to our pack committee meeting. I kept telling Steve that I didn't necessarily like the way some things were being done, and I already knew that if I wanted things to change I needed to volunteer; that's the way the scouting program works. I wanted to know more and be more involved. Steve is already the Advancement Coordinator, which means that he makes sure that all the boys are getting all of the awards, patches, and beads that they need for the stuff they've done, so he goes to committee meeting, too. Our cubmaster informed us that there were still some positions standing open on the committee that needed to be filled and one of them was the committee chair. Steve kept nudging me, and I thought I could probably handle that position, because I thought it was just conducting the monthly committee meeting. So I said I'd do that. Then I find out that my position in the hierarchy is right below the charter organization that sponsors us (they have final control on everything) and I have definitely been given authority over the cubmaster and all the den leaders. I'm wondering if I've bitten off more than I can chew... Steve has already brought home the Leader Manual for me and said that the reason he kept nudging me to volunteer for this position was because he was sure both that I could do and that he could support me in it. Another reminder of why I love him!

Anyway, so I'll be taking on those roles this fall as well as going back to school, so we'll see just how good my juggling skills are!

Wow, that is a lot to do! But it's good to keep busy. I hope you're able to keep up with everything, and I'm sure you'll have a great time doing it!

Good thing you're such a capable person! That really is a lot to take on, but if you and Steve think you can do it, go for it!!! Sounds like life at least won't be dull.

Yeah for volunteers! I don't know where life would be without them. Good people are needed everywhere!
